Solomon Brings the Ark to the Temple
Solomon gathers Israel's leaders and the Levites to bring the ark of the covenant from Zion to the new temple. At its dedication, the house is filled with the Lord's glory in the form of a cloud, so that the priests cannot carry out their service 2 Chronicles 5:1-14.

1So all the work that Solomon did for the house of the LORD was finished. Then Solomon brought in the gifts his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the vessels—and placed them in the treasuries of the house of God.
וַתִּשְׁלַם֙ כָּל־הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה ס וַיָּבֵ֨א שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֣י ׀ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֗יו וְאֶת־הַכֶּ֤סֶף וְאֶת־הַזָּהָב֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־הַכֵּלִ֔ים נָתַ֕ן בְּאֹצְר֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ פ
2Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the ancestral houses of the Israelites, at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the City of David, that is, Zion.
אָז֩ יַקְהֵ֨יל שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְאֶת־כָּל־רָאשֵׁ֨י הַמַּטּ֜וֹת נְשִׂיאֵ֧י הָאָב֛וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם לְֽהַעֲל֞וֹת אֶת־אֲר֧וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֛ה מֵעִ֥יר דָּוִ֖יד הִ֥יא צִיּֽוֹן׃
3All the men of Israel gathered to the king at the festival in the seventh month.
וַיִּקָּהֲל֧וּ אֶל־הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ כָּל־אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בֶּחָ֑ג ה֖וּא הַחֹ֥דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃
4When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark.
וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ הַלְוִיִּ֖ם אֶת־הָאָרֽוֹן׃
5They brought up the ark, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites carried them up.
וַיַּעֲל֤וּ אֶת־הָאָרוֹן֙ וְאֶת־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְאֶת־כָּל־כְּלֵ֥י הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּאֹ֑הֶל הֶעֱל֣וּ אֹתָ֔ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים הַלְוִיִּֽם׃
6King Solomon and the whole assembly of Israel gathered with him before the ark sacrificed sheep and cattle too many to be counted or numbered.
וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה וְכָל־עֲדַ֧ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל הַנּוֹעָדִ֥ים עָלָ֖יו לִפְנֵ֣י הָאָר֑וֹן מְזַבְּחִים֙ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יִסָּפְר֛וּ וְלֹ֥א יִמָּנ֖וּ מֵרֹֽב׃
7The priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the cherubim.
וַיָּבִ֣יאוּ הַ֠כֹּהֲנִים אֶת־אֲר֨וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֧ה אֶל־מְקוֹמ֛וֹ אֶל־דְּבִ֥יר הַבַּ֖יִת אֶל־קֹ֣דֶשׁ הַקְּדָשִׁ֑ים אֶל־תַּ֖חַת כַּנְפֵ֥י הַכְּרוּבִֽים׃
8The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, so that they overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles from above.
וַיִּהְי֤וּ הַכְּרוּבִים֙ פֹּרְשִׂ֣ים כְּנָפַ֔יִם עַל־מְק֖וֹם הָאָר֑וֹן וַיְכַסּ֧וּ הַכְּרוּבִ֛ים עַל־הָאָר֥וֹן וְעַל־בַּדָּ֖יו מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃
9The poles were so long that their ends could be seen extending from the ark in front of the inner sanctuary, though they were not visible from outside. And there they remain to this day.
וַֽיַּאֲרִיכוּ֮ הַבַּדִּים֒ וַיֵּרָאוּ֩ רָאשֵׁ֨י הַבַּדִּ֤ים מִן־הָאָרוֹן֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וְלֹ֥א יֵרָא֖וּ הַח֑וּצָה וַֽיְהִי־שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃
10There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
אֵ֚ין בָּֽאָר֔וֹן רַ֚ק שְׁנֵ֣י הַלֻּח֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּחֹרֵ֑ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּרַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ עִם־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּצֵאתָ֖ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ פ
11Then the priests came out of the Holy Place. All the priests who were present had consecrated themselves, without regard to their divisions,
וַיְהִ֕י בְּצֵ֥את הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים מִן־הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ כִּ֠י כָּל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים הַֽנִּמְצְאִים֙ הִתְקַדָּ֔שׁוּ אֵ֖ין לִשְׁמ֥וֹר לְמַחְלְקֽוֹת׃
12and all the Levitical singers—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and kinsmen—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding trumpets.
וְהַלְוִיִּ֣ם הַמְשֹׁרֲרִ֣ים לְכֻלָּ֡ם לְאָסָ֡ף לְהֵימָ֣ן לִֽ֠ידֻתוּן וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֨ם וְלַאֲחֵיהֶ֜ם מְלֻבָּשִׁ֣ים בּ֗וּץ בִּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ וּבִנְבָלִ֣ים וְכִנֹּר֔וֹת עֹמְדִ֖ים מִזְרָ֣ח לַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְעִמָּהֶ֤ם כֹּֽהֲנִים֙ לְמֵאָ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֔ים *מחצררים **מַחְצְרִ֖ים בַּחֲצֹֽצְרֽוֹת׃
13The trumpeters and singers joined as one, making a single sound of praise and thanksgiving to the LORD. As they lifted up their voices with trumpets, cymbals, and instruments of music, they praised the LORD: "He is good; his mercy endures forever." Then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud,
וַיְהִ֣י כְ֠אֶחָד *למחצצרים **לַמְחַצְּרִ֨ים וְלַמְשֹֽׁרֲרִ֜ים לְהַשְׁמִ֣יעַ קוֹל־אֶחָ֗ד לְהַלֵּ֣ל וּלְהֹדוֹת֮ לַיהוָה֒ וּכְהָרִ֣ים ק֠וֹל בַּחֲצֹצְר֨וֹת וּבִמְצִלְתַּ֜יִם וּבִכְלֵ֣י הַשִּׁ֗יר וּבְהַלֵּ֤ל לַיהוָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּ֑וֹ וְהַבַּ֛יִת מָלֵ֥א עָנָ֖ן בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
14and the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
וְלֹא־יֽ͏ָכְל֧וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים לַעֲמ֥וֹד לְשָׁרֵ֖ת מִפְּנֵ֣י הֶעָנָ֑ן כִּֽי־מָלֵ֥א כְבוֹד־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ פ
