Jesus Cleanses the Temple
Jesus drives out the money changers from the temple: 'My house shall be called a house of prayer!'
Matteusevangeliet 21,12-17
12Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves,
Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ⸀Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὸ ⸀ἱερόν, καὶ ἐξέβαλεν πάντας τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ ἀγοράζοντας ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ τὰς τραπέζας τῶν κολλυβιστῶν κατέστρεψεν καὶ τὰς καθέδρας τῶν πωλούντων τὰς περιστεράς,
13and he said to them, "It is written: 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a den of robbers."
καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Γέγραπται· Ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος προσευχῆς κληθήσεται, ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτὸν ⸀ποιεῖτε σπήλαιον λῃστῶν.
14The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
Καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ ⸂τυφλοὶ καὶ χωλοὶ⸃ ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.
15But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders he did, and the children shouting in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὰ θαυμάσια ἃ ἐποίησεν καὶ τοὺς παῖδας ⸀τοὺς κράζοντας ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ λέγοντας· Ὡσαννὰ τῷ υἱῷ Δαυίδ, ἠγανάκτησαν
16and said to him, "Do you hear what these children are saying?" Jesus answered, "Yes. Have you never read: 'From the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have brought forth praise'?"
καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἀκούεις τί οὗτοι λέγουσιν; ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ναί. οὐδέποτε ἀνέγνωτε ὅτι Ἐκ στόματος νηπίων καὶ θηλαζόντων κατηρτίσω αἶνον;
17Then he left them, went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.
καὶ καταλιπὼν αὐτοὺς ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως εἰς Βηθανίαν, καὶ ηὐλίσθη ἐκεῖ.
Markusevangeliet 11,15-19
15They came to Jerusalem, and Jesus went into the temple and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves,
Καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα. καὶ ⸀εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἤρξατο ἐκβάλλειν τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ ⸀τοὺς ἀγοράζοντας ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ, καὶ τὰς τραπέζας τῶν κολλυβιστῶν καὶ τὰς καθέδρας τῶν πωλούντων τὰς περιστερὰς κατέστρεψεν
16and he would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple.
καὶ οὐκ ἤφιεν ἵνα τις διενέγκῃ σκεῦος διὰ τοῦ ἱεροῦ,
17And he taught them, saying, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers."
καὶ ἐδίδασκεν ⸂καὶ ἔλεγεν⸃ ⸀αὐτοῖς· Οὐ γέγραπται ὅτι Ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος προσευχῆς κληθήσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν; ὑμεῖς δὲ ⸀πεποιήκατε αὐτὸν σπήλαιον λῃστῶν.
18The chief priests and the scribes heard this and began looking for a way to destroy him, for they were afraid of him, since the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ ⸂ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς⸃, καὶ ἐζήτουν πῶς αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν· ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ αὐτόν, ⸂πᾶς γὰρ⸃ ὁ ὄχλος ἐξεπλήσσετο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ.
19And when evening came, they went out of the city.
Καὶ ⸀ὅταν ὀψὲ ἐγένετο, ⸀ἐξεπορεύοντο ἔξω τῆς πόλεως.
Lukasevangeliet 19,45-48
45Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling.
Καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἤρξατο ἐκβάλλειν τοὺς ⸀πωλοῦντας,
46He said to them, "It is written: 'My house will be a house of prayer'—but you have made it a den of robbers."
λέγων αὐτοῖς· Γέγραπται· ⸂Καὶ ἔσται⸃ ὁ οἶκός μου οἶκος ⸀προσευχῆς, ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτὸν ἐποιήσατε σπήλαιον λῃστῶν.
47Every day he was teaching in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to destroy him,
Καὶ ἦν διδάσκων τὸ καθʼ ἡμέραν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ· οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἀπολέσαι καὶ οἱ πρῶτοι τοῦ λαοῦ,
48yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his every word.
καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὕρισκον τὸ τί ποιήσωσιν, ὁ λαὸς γὰρ ἅπας ἐξεκρέματο αὐτοῦ ἀκούων.
Johannesevangeliet 2,13-22
13When the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Καὶ ἐγγὺς ἦν τὸ πάσχα τῶν Ἰουδαίων, καὶ ἀνέβη εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ὁ Ἰησοῦς.
14In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers sitting at their tables.
καὶ εὗρεν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τοὺς πωλοῦντας βόας καὶ πρόβατα καὶ περιστερὰς καὶ τοὺς κερματιστὰς καθημένους,
15So he made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple, along with the sheep and the cattle. He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables,
καὶ ποιήσας φραγέλλιον ἐκ σχοινίων πάντας ἐξέβαλεν ἐκ τοῦ ἱεροῦ τά τε πρόβατα καὶ τοὺς βόας, καὶ τῶν κολλυβιστῶν ἐξέχεεν ⸂τὰ κέρματα⸃ καὶ τὰς τραπέζας ⸀ἀνέστρεψεν,
16and he said to those selling doves, "Get these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace."
καὶ τοῖς τὰς περιστερὰς πωλοῦσιν εἶπεν· Ἄρατε ταῦτα ἐντεῦθεν, μὴ ποιεῖτε τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός μου οἶκον ἐμπορίου.
17His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for your house will consume me."
⸀ἐμνήσθησαν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι γεγραμμένον ἐστίν· Ὁ ζῆλος τοῦ οἴκου σου καταφάγεταί με.
18Then the Jews responded, "What sign can you show us to prove your right to do this?"
ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Τί σημεῖον δεικνύεις ἡμῖν, ὅτι ταῦτα ποιεῖς;
19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Λύσατε τὸν ναὸν τοῦτον καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις ἐγερῶ αὐτόν.
20"It has taken forty-six years to build this temple," the Jews replied, "and you are going to raise it up in three days?"
εἶπαν οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι· Τεσσεράκοντα καὶ ἓξ ἔτεσιν οἰκοδομήθη ὁ ναὸς οὗτος, καὶ σὺ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις ἐγερεῖς αὐτόν;
21But the temple he spoke of was his own body.
ἐκεῖνος δὲ ἔλεγεν περὶ τοῦ ναοῦ τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ.
22So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.
ὅτε οὖν ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν, ἐμνήσθησαν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τοῦτο ἔλεγεν, καὶ ἐπίστευσαν τῇ γραφῇ καὶ τῷ λόγῳ ⸀ὃν εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς.
