Även känd som: Achaicus

Den tidiga kyrkanMessengerChurch servantc. 1st century C.E.

Achaicus was a Christian from the church in Corinth who, together with Stephanas and Fortunatus, made the important journey to Ephesus to visit the apostle Paul. They likely delivered a letter from the church and conveyed news about conditions in Corinth. Paul expresses deep gratitude for their visit, writing that they refreshed his spirit, as their personal presence compensated for the distance separating him from the congregation. The apostle urges the Corinthians to show such faithful coworkers respect and recognition. Although Achaicus is mentioned only by name in 1 Corinthians 16:17, his connection to the province of Achaia and his role as a church envoy shed light on the vital network of traveling messengers that linked the early Christian movement across vast geographical distances.

Visit to Paul in Ephesus

Akaikos traveled with Stephanas and Fortunatus from Corinth to Ephesus to visit the apostle Paul, likely carrying a letter and news from the congregation.

17I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have come, because they have made up for your absence;

Refreshing Encouragement for Paul

Akaikos and his fellow travelers refreshed Paul's spirit by their visit and compensated with their personal presence for the distance that separated the apostle from the congregation in Corinth.

17I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have come, because they have made up for your absence;
18they have refreshed my spirit, and yours as well. So give recognition to such people.

Recognition from Paul

Paul urged the Corinthians to recognize such co-workers and to submit themselves to those who have devoted themselves to serving the holy ones.

16Submit yourselves to people like these, and to everyone who works and labors alongside them.
18they have refreshed my spirit, and yours as well. So give recognition to such people.
