Akkub

Akkub was a Levite and temple gatekeeper (doorkeeper) who served at the temple in Jerusalem after returning from the Babylonian exile. He belonged to one of the gatekeeping families that returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel, and his descendants continued to guard the gates and storehouses of the temple. Akkub is mentioned repeatedly in Ezra and Nehemiah as a central figure among the gatekeepers, serving at both the temple gates and the storage rooms. He is also listed among the Levites who were present when Ezra read the law aloud to the people and helped the listeners understand its content, although it is debated whether this refers to the same person. Another individual with the same name is mentioned in 1 Chronicles as a descendant of King David through Zerubbabel's line, but this is likely not the same Akkub.
