Ashbel

Asbel was the son of Benjamin and grandson of the patriarch Jacob and Rachel. He is mentioned in the genealogies in Genesis, Numbers, and 1 Chronicles as part of the generation of Jacob's family that went to Egypt during the famine. Asbel became the ancestor of the Asbelites, one of the recognized clans within the tribe of Benjamin. Notably, Asbel is among the few names that appear consistently across all three biblical genealogical records of Benjamin's sons, even though these lists otherwise vary significantly in both the names included and their total number. This testifies to the fact that Asbel's clan held a stable and important position within the tribe of Benjamin through several periods of Israel's history.
