Doeg was an Edomite who served as Saul's chief shepherd. He is best known for reporting David to King Saul and then carrying out the massacre of the priests at Nob when Saul's own servants refused to do it.

Doeg Sees David with Ahimelech
Doeg was at the Lord's sanctuary in Nob when David fled from Saul and received help from the priest Ahimelech. He was there to fulfill a religious vow.
7So the priest gave him the holy bread, since there was none there but the bread of the Presence, which had been removed from before the LORD and replaced with fresh, warm bread on the day it was taken away.
Doeg reported to Saul that he had seen David with Ahimelech, and that the priest had given David food and Goliath's sword. This led to Saul's anger against the priests.
When Saul's servants refused to kill the Lord's priests, Doeg carried out the massacre himself. He killed 85 priests who wore linen ephods and destroyed the entire priestly town of Nob.
18Then the king said to Doeg, "You turn and strike down the priests." So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.
David wrote Psalm 52 in response to Doeg's evil and betrayal. The psalm condemns the one who boasts of wickedness and trusts in riches rather than God.
