Jeroboam II was king over the Northern Kingdom of Israel for 41 years and one of the most powerful kings in its history. During his reign, Israel experienced great territorial expansion and economic prosperity, but he continued in the sins of Jeroboam I with idol worship. The prophets Amos and Hosea ministered during his time and warned against Israel's moral decay.
23In the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam son of Joash became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned forty-one years.
25He restored the borders of Israel from Lebo Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which he had spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.
