4Along with them, by their generations and by their fathers' houses, were fighting units of the army, thirty-six thousand strong, for they had many wives and sons.
וַעֲלֵיהֶ֨ם לְתֹלְדוֹתָ֜ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבוֹתָ֗ם גְּדוּדֵי֙ צְבָ֣א מִלְחָמָ֔ה שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֖ה אָ֑לֶף כִּֽי־הִרְבּ֥וּ נָשִׁ֖ים וּבָנִֽים׃ ‬
5Their kinsmen among all the clans of Issachar were mighty warriors, eighty-seven thousand in all, as recorded in their genealogies.

As a descendant of Issachar, Jacob's son, Jibsam belonged to one of Israel's twelve tribes, which received their inheritance in the promised land.

Issachar's Blessing

The tribe of Issachar, to which Jibsam belonged, received a blessing from Jacob on his deathbed, where the tribe was described as strong and hardworking.

14Issachar is a strong-boned donkey, lying down between the saddlebags.
יִשָּׂשכָ֖ר חֲמֹ֣ר גָּ֑רֶם רֹבֵ֖ץ בֵּ֥ין הַֽמִּשְׁפְּתָֽיִם׃ ‬
15He saw that his resting place was good and that the land was pleasant, so he bent his shoulder to the load and became a slave at forced labor.
וַיַּ֤רְא מְנֻחָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב וְאֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ כִּ֣י נָעֵ֑מָה וַיֵּ֤ט שִׁכְמוֹ֙ לִסְבֹּ֔ל וַיְהִ֖י לְמַס־עֹבֵֽד׃ ס ‬
