Naphish was the youngest of the twelve sons of Nahor, Abraham's brother, born to his wife Milcah. He became the ancestor of an Arab tribe later known as the Naphishites, mentioned in connection with the Ishmaelite and eastern tribes. His descendants played a role in the early history of the tribes in the Transjordan region.
The descendants of Naphish, the Naphishites, are mentioned among the tribes that Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh fought against and defeated.
