Sillelai (also spelled Zillelai) was a Benjamite warrior who joined David in Ziklag while David was fleeing from King Saul. He is mentioned among the brave men of Benjamin who left Saul's tribe to support David. His defection to David was an important sign that support for David was growing even among Saul's own kinsmen.

Joins David in Ziklag

Sillelai was among the Benjamite warriors who left Saul and joined David while he was staying in Ziklag. These men were skilled archers and sling users.

Mentioned among David's heroes from Benjamin

Sillelai is named in the list of Benjamite warriors who came to David. This shows that even men from Saul's own tribe recognized David as the rightful future king.

Part of the movement toward David's kingdom

The influx of warriors from various tribes, including Benjamin, helped strengthen David's position and lay the groundwork for his future kingship over all Israel.

22They helped David against the raiding bands, for they were all mighty warriors, and they became commanders in his army.

23Day after day men kept coming to David to help him, until there was a great army, like the army of God.

Division within the tribe of Benjamin

That warriors like Sillelai left Benjamin and Saul's house showed a growing division within Saul's own tribe and a shift in loyalty toward David.
