Zilpah (Leah's handmaid)
Jacob's concubine and mother of two of the tribes of Israel
Zilpah was the handmaid whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah as a gift. When Leah stopped bearing children, she gave Zilpah to Jacob as a concubine, and through her Jacob had two sons: Gad and Asher, who became the ancestors of two of the twelve tribes of Israel.

When Leah stopped bearing children, she gave her servant Zilpah to Jacob as a wife so that she might have more children through her.

Zilpah bore Jacob his seventh son, and Leah named him Gad, which means 'good fortune'.
Asher Born
Zilpah bore Jacob her second son, and Leah named him Asher, which means 'happy', for she said, 'How happy I am! The women will call me happy.'
The Journey to Canaan
Zilpah and her sons were part of Jacob's household when they fled from Laban and traveled back to the land of Canaan.
