The number 403 appears twice in the Bible, both times in the genealogy of Genesis 11. Arpachshad lived 403 years after he fathered Shelah (Gen 11:13), and Shelah lived 403 years after he fathered Eber (Gen 11:15). It is remarkable that the same number is used for both patriarchs, which underscores the structured and symmetrical arrangement of the genealogy from Shem to Abraham. This genealogy serves as a bridge between primeval history and the patriarchal narratives, and the long lifespans reflect a gradual decline in life expectancy from the generations before the flood. Although 403 has not attained prominent independent symbolic status in Jewish or Christian tradition, its occurrence in this theologically important family tree is meaningful as part of biblical chronology. In Hebrew, 403 can be written with the letters tav (ת = 400) and gimel (ג = 3). Tav is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet and is associated with completion and signs (cf.
