The only direct biblical occurrence of 777 is in Genesis 5:31, where Lamech's lifespan is given as 777 years. Lamech was the father of Noah, and his age has been interpreted symbolically by Bible scholars as an expression that his life stood under God's perfect blessing, in a lineage leading toward the renewal of the earth through the flood. Lamech was the ninth generation from Adam through Seth's line (Gen 5) and the father of Noah. That his lifespan is given specifically as 777 years – in contrast to the seemingly arbitrary ages of the other patriarchs – has led many interpreters to see a deliberate symbolic pattern in the genealogy.
