Peter reminds of the truth before his death
Peter prepares believers for his imminent departure and wants to ensure they always remember the truth. He confirms that the message about Jesus' power and coming is not cleverly invented myths, but based on eyewitness accounts from the holy mountain where the Father's voice was heard over the Son. Peter also emphasizes that the prophetic word in Scripture does not come from human interpretation, but was spoken by people carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2. Petrus 1,12-21
12Therefore I will always keep reminding you of these things, even though you know them and stand firm in the truth you now have.
Διὸ ⸀μελλήσω ἀεὶ ὑμᾶς ὑπομιμνῄσκειν περὶ τούτων, καίπερ εἰδότας καὶ ἐστηριγμένους ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ.
13I think it right, as long as I live in this tent, to stir you up by way of reminder,
δίκαιον δὲ ἡγοῦμαι, ἐφʼ ὅσον εἰμὶ ἐν τούτῳ τῷ σκηνώματι, διεγείρειν ὑμᾶς ἐν ὑπομνήσει,
14since I know that the laying aside of my tent will come soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
εἰδὼς ὅτι ταχινή ἐστιν ἡ ἀπόθεσις τοῦ σκηνώματός μου, καθὼς καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς ἐδήλωσέν μοι·
15And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
σπουδάσω δὲ καὶ ἑκάστοτε ἔχειν ὑμᾶς μετὰ τὴν ἐμὴν ἔξοδον τὴν τούτων μνήμην ποιεῖσθαι.
16For we did not follow cleverly invented myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
Οὐ γὰρ σεσοφισμένοις μύθοις ἐξακολουθήσαντες ἐγνωρίσαμεν ὑμῖν τὴν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ δύναμιν καὶ παρουσίαν, ἀλλʼ ἐπόπται γενηθέντες τῆς ἐκείνου μεγαλειότητος.
17For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
λαβὼν γὰρ παρὰ θεοῦ πατρὸς τιμὴν καὶ δόξαν φωνῆς ἐνεχθείσης αὐτῷ τοιᾶσδε ὑπὸ τῆς μεγαλοπρεποῦς δόξης· ⸂Ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός μου οὗτός ἐστιν⸃, εἰς ὃν ἐγὼ εὐδόκησα—
18We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.
καὶ ταύτην τὴν φωνὴν ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἐνεχθεῖσαν σὺν αὐτῷ ὄντες ἐν τῷ ⸂ἁγίῳ ὄρει⸃.
19So we have the prophetic word made all the more certain, and you do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
καὶ ἔχομεν βεβαιότερον τὸν προφητικὸν λόγον, ᾧ καλῶς ποιεῖτε προσέχοντες ὡς λύχνῳ φαίνοντι ἐν αὐχμηρῷ τόπῳ, ἕως οὗ ἡμέρα διαυγάσῃ καὶ φωσφόρος ἀνατείλῃ ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν·
20Above all, understand this: no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.
τοῦτο πρῶτον γινώσκοντες ὅτι πᾶσα προφητεία γραφῆς ἰδίας ἐπιλύσεως οὐ γίνεται,
21For no prophecy ever came by human will; rather, people spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
οὐ γὰρ θελήματι ἀνθρώπου ἠνέχθη ⸂προφητεία ποτέ⸃, ἀλλὰ ὑπὸ πνεύματος ἁγίου φερόμενοι ἐλάλησαν ⸀ἀπὸ θεοῦ ἄνθρωποι.
