Ahinoam (Saul's wife)

Ahinoam, daughter of Ahimaaz, was the wife of Saul – the first king anointed over Israel. Her name appears in the genealogy in 1 Samuel 14:49–50, where Saul's immediate family is listed: his sons Jonathan, Ishvi and Malkishua, and his daughters Merab and Michal. The biblical sources give no information about actions, statements or initiatives from Ahinoam herself, and she appears solely through her connection to Saul's household. Nevertheless, her role as mother places her at the center of several pivotal events in the early monarchy: Jonathan's strong bond with David, Michal's marriage to David, and Merab's role in Saul's political alliances. Ahinoam illustrates how many women in the biblical royal narratives are visible primarily through their family relationships rather than through their own actions.
