Ma'akah was one of the sons of Nahor, Abraham's brother, born to his concubine Reumah. He is mentioned in the genealogy in Genesis 22 as part of Nahor's descendants. Ma'akah is considered the ancestor of the Aramean people known as the Ma'akatites, who later settled in the area east of the Jordan River.
Maacah's birth is mentioned in connection with the news Abraham received about Nahor's family, after Abraham had passed the test of faith with Isaac on Mount Moriah.
The descendants of Maacah developed into the people known as the Maacathites, who are mentioned in connection with the division of the land and Israel's wars in the promised land.
14Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and he named that part of Bashan after himself, Havvoth Jair, which it is called to this day.
