Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David, at the place David had prepared, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
He began to build on the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
These are the foundations Solomon laid for building the house of God: the length, in cubits of the old standard, was sixty cubits, and the width twenty cubits.
The portico in front, running the full width of the house, measured twenty cubits across, and its height was a hundred and twenty cubits; and he overlaid the inside with pure gold.
The great hall he paneled with cypress wood, overlaid it with fine gold, and decorated it with palm trees and chains.
He adorned the house with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
He overlaid the house—its beams, thresholds, walls, and doors—with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.
He made the Most Holy Place: its length, corresponding to the width of the house, was twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits. He overlaid it with six hundred talents of fine gold.
The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. He also overlaid the upper rooms with gold.
In the Most Holy Place he made two sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold.
The total wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits: one wing of the first cherub was five cubits and touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, also five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub.
Likewise one wing of the second cherub was five cubits and touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, five cubits, met the wing of the first cherub.
The wings of these cherubim spread out twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall.
He made the curtain of blue, purple, and crimson yarn and fine linen, and worked cherubim into it.
In front of the house he made two pillars, thirty-five cubits high, each with a capital of five cubits on top.
He made chainwork in the inner sanctuary and placed it on top of the pillars; he made a hundred pomegranates and fastened them into the chains.
He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and one on the left. The one on the right he named Jachin, and the one on the left Boaz.
