Ahinoam of Jezreel
David's wife from Jezreel
Ahinoam from Jezreel was one of King David's earliest wives, whom he took as his wife during the period when he lived as an outlaw and was pursued by King Saul. She is consistently mentioned together with Abigail from Carmel, and the two women shared a fate throughout David's wandering life. Ahinoam was captured by Amalekites during the raid on Ziklag, but she was rescued when David pursued the enemy and freed the captives. After Saul's death, she followed David to Hebron, where he was anointed king over Judah. In Hebron she gave birth to Amnon, David's firstborn son – a son whose tragic life would later cast dark shadows over the royal house.
