Abida
Son of Midian, descendant of Abraham
Abida belonged to the ancestors of the Midianites and was one of five sons of Midian, who in turn was a son of Abraham and Keturah. His name probably means 'my father knows' or 'father of knowledge', a theophoric name rooted in Semitic naming tradition. He is mentioned in the genealogies in both Genesis and 1 Chronicles. While Genesis refers to Keturah as Abraham's wife, 1 Chronicles uses the term concubine – a difference that has been subject to discussion in Jewish interpretive traditions. Through Midian's line, Abida and his brothers were sent eastward by Abraham, away from Isaac, marking a clear distinction between the covenant line and Abraham's other descendants.
