PatriarkatPatriarchc. 1900 BC

Ephah was a son of Midian, who in turn was the son of Abraham and his other wife Keturah. Ephah became the ancestor of a Midianite clan that bore his name, which is later mentioned in connection with trade and camel caravans in prophetic texts. The name Ephah also appears in other contexts in the Old Testament, including as a person from the Caleb lineage.

The prophet Isaiah mentions Efa in a prophecy about nations coming to Jerusalem with gold and incense to honor the Lord.

6Caravans of camels will cover you, young camels of Midian and Ephah; all of them will come from Sheba, bearing gold and frankincense, proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

Abraham's sons by Keturah

Abraham had several sons with Keturah after Sarah's death, including Midian who became the father of Efa. Abraham gave gifts to these sons and sent them eastward.

Efa in Caleb's lineage

Another person named Efa is mentioned as a concubine of Caleb in the genealogies, showing the name's prevalence among Israel's tribes.
