Ahisamach belonged to the tribe of Dan and is known exclusively from the Bible as the father of Oholiab – the gifted craftsman whom God appointed together with Bezalel to lead the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness. Although Ahisamach has no independent story attached to him, he is named four times in Exodus as a patronymic identifier for his son. His lineage is nevertheless significant: through Oholiab, Ahisamach's name was permanently linked to the holy mission of building the sanctuary where God would dwell among the people of Israel. That this central craftsman came from Dan, one of the less prominent tribes, underscores that God calls and equips people regardless of social status.
God chose Oholiab, son of Ahisamach from the tribe of Dan, together with Bezalel to lead the work of constructing the tabernacle and all its equipment.
6And see, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to work with him. I have also given skill to every craftsman, so they can make everything I have commanded you:
35He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and as weavers—masters of every craft and designers of artistic works.
Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, worked alongside Bezalel and other skilled craftsmen whom God had given wisdom and understanding to carry out the construction of the sanctuary.
1So Bezalel and Oholiab went to work, along with every skilled craftsman to whom the LORD had given wisdom and understanding to know how to carry out all the work of building the sanctuary, doing everything just as the LORD had commanded.
2Then Moses called Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled craftsman in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom—everyone whose heart moved him to come forward and take up the work.
