Etusivu Henkilöt Ephrath Ephrath (also called Ephratah) was the wife of Caleb, son of Hezron, from the tribe of Judah. She is known as the mother of Hur, and through her descendants she became a matriarch to important figures, including Bezalel, who built the tabernacle. The name Ephrath is also associated with the Bethlehem area (Ephratah).

51 Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth Gader. hepr שַׂלְמָא֙ אֲבִ֣י בֵֽית־לָ֔חֶם חָרֵ֖ף אֲבִ֥י בֵית־גָּדֵֽר׃
52 Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim had these sons: Haroeh, and half of the Manahathites. hepr וַיִּהְי֤וּ בָנִים֙ לְשׁוֹבָ֔ל אֲבִ֖י קִרְיַ֣ת יְעָרִ֑ים הָרֹאֶ֖ה חֲצִ֥י הַמְּנֻחֽוֹת׃
The name Ephrathah is closely linked to Bethlehem, the city later known as the City of David and the place where the Messiah was to be born.
4 Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem. hepr וּפְנוּאֵל֙ אֲבִ֣י גְדֹ֔ר וְעֵ֖זֶר אֲבִ֣י חוּשָׁ֑ה אֵ֤לֶּה בְנֵי־חוּר֙ בְּכ֣וֹר אֶפְרָ֔תָה אֲבִ֖י בֵּ֥ית לָֽחֶם׃
1 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too small to be counted among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient days. hepr וְאַתָּ֞ה בֵּֽית־לֶ֣חֶם אֶפְרָ֗תָה צָעִיר֙ לִֽהְיוֹת֙ בְּאַלְפֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה מִמְּךָ֙ לִ֣י יֵצֵ֔א לִֽהְי֥וֹת מוֹשֵׁ֖ל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּמוֹצָאֹתָ֥יו מִקֶּ֖דֶם מִימֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם׃
