Elymas, also called Bar-Jesus, was a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet who served the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus on Cyprus. He opposed the apostles Paul and Barnabas as they preached the gospel but was struck with blindness as God's judgment against his resistance to the truth.

Elymas served as an advisor and sorcerer to the Roman proconsul Sergius Paulus and held influence at his court.
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Paul confronted Elymas directly, calling him a son of the devil and an enemy of all righteousness who twists the Lord's right ways.
10and said, "You are full of every kind of deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all that is right! Will you never stop twisting the straight paths of the Lord?
11Now look, the hand of the Lord is against you. You will be blind, unable to see the sun, for a time." Immediately a mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, looking for someone to lead him by the hand.
