Etusivu Henkilöt Hirah Hirah was an Adullamite who was a friend of Judah, Jacob's son. He played a role in connection with Judah's marriage and the events surrounding Tamar. Hirah served as an intermediary for Judah on several occasions and is mentioned in Genesis 38 .

1 About that time Judah left his brothers and went down to stay with a man from Adullam named Hirah. hepr וַֽיְהִי֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔וא וַיֵּ֥רֶד יְהוּדָ֖ה מֵאֵ֣ת אֶחָ֑יו וַיֵּ֛ט עַד־אִ֥ישׁ עֲדֻלָּמִ֖י וּשְׁמ֥וֹ חִירָֽה׃
While Judah was staying with Hirah, he met a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua, and took her as his wife.
2 There Judah saw the daughter of a Canaanite named Shua. He took her and slept with her, hepr וַיַּרְא־שָׁ֧ם יְהוּדָ֛ה בַּת־אִ֥ישׁ כְּנַעֲנִ֖י וּשְׁמ֣וֹ שׁ֑וּעַ וַיִּקָּחֶ֖הָ וַיָּבֹ֥א אֵלֶֽיהָ׃
3 and she conceived and bore a son, and he named him Er. hepr וַתַּ֖הַר וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֑ן וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ עֵֽר׃
Judah went up to Timnah with his friend Hirah from Adullam to shear his sheep.
12 After a long time Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had finished mourning, he went up to Timnah to the men shearing his sheep, together with his friend Hirah the Adullamite. hepr וַיִּרְבּוּ֙ הַיָּמִ֔ים וַתָּ֖מָת בַּת־שׁ֣וּעַ אֵֽשֶׁת־יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהוּדָ֗ה וַיַּ֜עַל עַל־גֹּֽזֲזֵ֤י צֹאנוֹ֙ ה֗וּא וְחִירָ֛ה רֵעֵ֥הוּ הָעֲדֻלָּמִ֖י תִּמְנָֽתָה׃
Judah sent his friend Hirah the Adullamite with a young goat as payment to the woman he had been with, but Hirah could not find her.
20 Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite to retrieve the pledge from the woman, but he could not find her. hepr וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יְהוּדָ֜ה אֶת־גְּדִ֣י הָֽעִזִּ֗ים בְּיַד֙ רֵעֵ֣הוּ הָֽעֲדֻלָּמִ֔י לָקַ֥חַת הָעֵרָב֖וֹן מִיַּ֣ד הָאִשָּׁ֑ה וְלֹ֖א מְצָאָֽהּ׃
Hirah asked the men at the place about the prostitute by the road, but they said there had never been a prostitute there.
21 He asked the men of the place, "Where is the shrine prostitute who was at Enaim by the road?" "There has been no shrine prostitute here," they said. hepr וַיִּשְׁאַ֞ל אֶת־אַנְשֵׁ֤י מְקֹמָהּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אַיֵּ֧ה הַקְּדֵשָׁ֛ה הִ֥וא בָעֵינַ֖יִם עַל־הַדָּ֑רֶךְ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ לֹא־הָיְתָ֥ה בָזֶ֖ה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃
22 So he went back to Judah and said, "I could not find her. And the men of the place said, 'There has been no prostitute here.'" hepr וַיָּ֙שָׁב֙ אֶל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לֹ֣א מְצָאתִ֑יהָ וְגַ֨ם אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ אָֽמְר֔וּ לֹא־הָיְתָ֥ה בָזֶ֖ה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃
Hirah returned to Judah and reported that he had not found the woman, and that the people at the place said no such woman existed there.
22 So he went back to Judah and said, "I could not find her. And the men of the place said, 'There has been no prostitute here.'" hepr וַיָּ֙שָׁב֙ אֶל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לֹ֣א מְצָאתִ֑יהָ וְגַ֨ם אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ אָֽמְר֔וּ לֹא־הָיְתָ֥ה בָזֶ֖ה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃
23 Judah said, "Let her keep what she has, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you could not find her." hepr וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוּדָה֙ תִּֽקַּֽח־לָ֔הּ פֶּ֖ן נִהְיֶ֣ה לָב֑וּז הִנֵּ֤ה שָׁלַ֙חְתִּי֙ הַגְּדִ֣י הַזֶּ֔ה וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹ֥א מְצָאתָֽהּ׃
