Horite chiefs in Seir

The Horites, including Shobal's clan to which Manahat belonged, are listed as tribal chiefs who lived in the land of Seir before being displaced by Esau's descendants.

20These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who lived in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, the sons of Seir, in the land of Edom.

29These were the Horite chiefs: Chief Lotan, Chief Shobal, Chief Zibeon, Chief Anah,
30Chief Dishon, Chief Ezer, Chief Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, clan by clan, in the land of Seir.

Connection to Edom and Esau's territory

The Seir region, where Manahat's family lived, was later taken over by Esau's descendants (the Edomites), placing Manahat in an important geopolitical context within the biblical narrative.

12The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau dispossessed them, wiped them out, and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the LORD gave them as their possession.)
22just as he had done for the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites before them, so that they dispossessed them and have lived in their place to this day.
