Michael is an archangel who serves as a mighty warrior and protector of God's people. He is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments as one who fights against evil powers and defends Israel. Michael plays a central role in spiritual warfare and is the only angel explicitly called 'archangel' in the Bible.

Michael Helps Against the Prince of Persia
The angel sent to Daniel explains that Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help him in the struggle against the prince of the kingdom of Persia.
13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

Jude's letter mentions that the archangel Michael was in dispute with the devil over Moses' body, but left judgment to the Lord instead of pronouncing a mocking verdict.
9But when Michael the archangel disputed with the devil about the body of Moses, he did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
