Puva (also spelled Pua) was the second son of Issachar, who was one of Jacob's twelve sons. He is mentioned in the genealogies in Genesis and Numbers as one of those who went down to Egypt with Jacob's family. His descendants became known as the clan of the Puvaite.

Puva was born as the second son of Issachar, one of Jacob's twelve sons. He was part of the growing family that made up the patriarchs of Israel.

The Journey to Egypt

Puva was among Jacob's descendants who went down to Egypt during the famine, when Joseph was the ruler there. He was one of the 70 people from Jacob's household who settled in Goshen.

6They took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt—Jacob and all his offspring with him:
וַיִּקְח֣וּ אֶת־מִקְנֵיהֶ֗ם וְאֶת־רְכוּשָׁם֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר רָֽכְשׁוּ֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ מִצְרָ֑יְמָה יַעֲקֹ֖ב וְכָל־זַרְע֥וֹ אִתּֽוֹ׃ ‬
7his sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters. All his offspring he brought with him to Egypt.
בָּנָ֞יו וּבְנֵ֤י בָנָיו֙ אִתּ֔וֹ בְּנֹתָ֛יו וּבְנ֥וֹת בָּנָ֖יו וְכָל־זַרְע֑וֹ הֵבִ֥יא אִתּ֖וֹ מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃ ס ‬

In Numbers, Puvva is recorded as the founder of the clan of the Punites (Puvvites) in connection with the census in the wilderness.
