Israel's Quiet Judge

Tola was one of Israel’s lesser-known judges who judged Israel for 23 years. He came from the tribe of Issachar and lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim. Although little is recorded about his deeds, he represents a period of relative stability in Israel.

Tola Rises as Judge

After Abimelech’s tyrannical rule and death, Tola rose up to save Israel. He took on the role of judge and brought order back to the nation.

1After Abimelech, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, rose up to deliver Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.

Tola's Lineage

Tola was the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, from the tribe of Issachar. His lineage connected him to one of Israel’s twelve tribes.

Tola judged Israel for 23 years, a period believed to have been marked by peace and stability following Abimelech's turbulent time.

The Death and Burial of Tola

When Tola died, he was buried in Shamir, the city where he had lived and served as judge.
