Mentioned as David's sister

Serujah is mentioned in the genealogies as the daughter of Isai and sister to David, along with Abigail.

16Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three.

Mother of Joab, Abishai, and Asael

Serujah's three sons all became prominent warriors and leaders in David's army. They are consistently referred to as 'the sons of Serujah'.

18The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle.

Her sons in battle against Abner

Serujah's sons fought against Abner at the pool of Gibeon, where Asael was killed while pursuing Abner.

13Joab son of Zeruiah and David's servants also set out, and they met them at the pool of Gibeon. One company sat down on one side of the pool, the other on the opposite side.
14Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men get up and fight before us." Joab said, "Let them get up."
18The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle.
23But he refused to turn aside, so Abner struck him in the stomach with the butt of his spear, and the spear came out through his back. He fell there and died on the spot. And everyone who came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died stopped there.

David describes her sons as too harsh

David complained that Serujah's sons were too violent and vengeful, and that they were a burden to him.

39Today I am weak, though anointed king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too strong for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!"

Relationship with Amasa

Serujah's sister Abigail was the mother of Amasa, who was later killed by Joab, Serujah's son.

16Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three.
17Abigail bore Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
