Warning of Famine and Promise of Blessing
God reminds the people through the prophet Haggai of the earlier plagues of poor harvests, mildew, blight, and hail that struck them because they did not turn to him. But from the day the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid—the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month—he promises to bless them.
Aggée 2,15-19
15Now think carefully about this, from this day backward: how things were before one stone was laid on another in the temple of the LORD,
וְעַתָּה֙ שִֽׂימוּ־נָ֣א לְבַבְכֶ֔ם מִן־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה וָמָ֑עְלָה מִטֶּ֧רֶם שֽׂוּם־אֶ֛בֶן אֶל־אֶ֖בֶן בְּהֵיכַ֥ל יְהוָֽה׃
16Ever since then, when someone came to a grain heap expecting twenty measures, there were only ten; when someone came to the wine vat to draw off fifty, there were only twenty.
מִֽהְיוֹתָ֥ם בָּא֙ אֶל־עֲרֵמַ֣ת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים וְהָיְתָ֖ה עֲשָׂרָ֑ה בָּ֣א אֶל־הַיֶּ֗קֶב לַחְשֹׂף֙ חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים פּוּרָ֔ה וְהָיְתָ֖ה עֶשְׂרִֽים׃
17I struck you and all the work of your hands with blight, mildew, and hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the LORD.
הִכֵּ֨יתִי אֶתְכֶ֜ם בַּשִּׁדָּפ֤וֹן וּבַיֵּֽרָקוֹן֙ וּבַבָּרָ֔ד אֵ֖ת כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יְדֵיכֶ֑ם וְאֵין־אֶתְכֶ֥ם אֵלַ֖י נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃
18Think carefully from this day on, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid. Think carefully:
שִׂימוּ־נָ֣א לְבַבְכֶ֔ם מִן־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה וָמָ֑עְלָה מִיּוֹם֩ עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֜ה לַתְּשִׁיעִ֗י לְמִן־הַיּ֛וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יֻסַּ֥ד הֵֽיכַל־יְהוָ֖ה שִׂ֥ימוּ לְבַבְכֶֽם׃
19Is there still seed left in the barn? The vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded. But from this day on I will bless you.
הַע֤וֹד הַזֶּ֙רַע֙ בַּמְּגוּרָ֔ה וְעַד־הַגֶּ֨פֶן וְהַתְּאֵנָ֧ה וְהָרִמּ֛וֹן וְעֵ֥ץ הַזַּ֖יִת לֹ֣א נָשָׂ֑א מִן־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה אֲבָרֵֽךְ׃ ס
