2 I will sing of the LORD's steadfast love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known to every generation. héb חַֽסְדֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה עוֹלָ֣ם אָשִׁ֑ירָה לְדֹ֥ר וָדֹ֓ר ׀ אוֹדִ֖יעַ אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ בְּפִֽי׃
3 For I have said, "Steadfast love is built to last forever; in the heavens you establish your faithfulness." héb כִּֽי־אָמַ֗רְתִּי ע֭וֹלָם חֶ֣סֶד יִבָּנֶ֑ה שָׁמַ֓יִם ׀ תָּכִ֖ן אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ בָהֶֽם׃
4 "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: héb כָּרַ֣תִּֽי בְ֭רִית לִבְחִירִ֑י נִ֝שְׁבַּ֗עְתִּי לְדָוִ֥ד עַבְדִּֽי׃
In the final part of Psalm 89 , Ethan laments that God has seemingly rejected His anointed one and broken the covenant with David, reflecting a national crisis.

41 You have broken down all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins. héb פָּרַ֥צְתָּ כָל־גְּדֵרֹתָ֑יו שַׂ֖מְתָּ מִבְצָרָ֣יו מְחִתָּה׃
42 All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. héb שַׁ֭סֻּהוּ כָּל־עֹ֣בְרֵי דָ֑רֶךְ הָיָ֥ה חֶ֝רְפָּ֗ה לִשְׁכֵנֽ͏ָיו׃
Ethan is mentioned in 1 Chronicles as the son of Kishi, from the sons of Merari, one of the Levitical singers appointed by David to serve in the house of the Lord.
