Mentioned as prophetesses

Luke describes that Philip had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy, showing that women held recognized spiritual gifts in the early church.

9He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

Paul visits their home

The apostle Paul and his traveling companions stayed with Philip and his family in Caesarea on the way to Jerusalem, thus meeting the four prophetesses.

8The next day we left and came to Caesarea. There we went to the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven, and stayed with him.
9He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.
10After we had been there several days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.

Part of a prophetic environment

During Paul's stay, the prophet Agabus also came to Caesarea and prophesied about Paul's fate, showing the active prophetic environment the daughters were part of.

10After we had been there several days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
11He came to us, took Paul's belt, tied his own feet and hands with it, and said, "This is what the Holy Spirit says: 'In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and hand him over to the Gentiles.'"

Fulfillment of Joel's prophecy

Their prophetic gift can be seen as a fulfillment of the prophecy that God's Spirit would be poured out on all people, and that sons and daughters would prophesy.

17"'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
18Even on my male and female servants I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
