Hanan is a name that appears several times in the Old Testament, referring to different individuals. The most prominent Hanan is associated with temple service after the return from exile in Babylon. He is mentioned among those who helped the people understand the Law and who sealed their covenant with God under Nehemiah's leadership.

Hanan as steward over the storehouses

A man named Hanan, son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, was appointed to manage the temple storehouses because he was considered trustworthy.

13I put Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites in charge of the storerooms, with Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, as their assistant, for these men were considered trustworthy. Their duty was to distribute the supplies to their brothers.
וָאוֹצְרָ֣ה עַל־א֠וֹצָרוֹת שֶׁלֶמְיָ֨ה הַכֹּהֵ֜ן וְצָד֣וֹק הַסּוֹפֵ֗ר וּפְדָיָה֙ מִן־הַלְוִיִּ֔ם וְעַל־יָדָ֔ם חָנָ֥ן בֶּן־זַכּ֖וּר בֶּן־מַתַּנְיָ֑ה כִּ֤י נֶאֱמָנִים֙ נֶחְשָׁ֔בוּ וַעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לַחֲלֹ֥ק לַאֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ פ ‬

A Hanan is mentioned as the son of Asael in 1 Chronicles, among David's mighty men and genealogies.

Hanan as a temple servant in Jeremiah's time

Hanan, the son of Jigdalja, a man of God, had a chamber in the temple where the prophet Jeremiah met the Rechabites.

4and I brought them to the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah, the man of God. It was next to the chamber of the officials, above the chamber of Maaseiah son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.
