Manahat was a son of Zibeon, who was a descendant of Seir the Horite. He is mentioned in the genealogies in Genesis and 1 Chronicles as part of the Horite tribal people who lived in the region of Seir (Edom) before the Edomites took over the land. The name Manahat is also associated with a place or clan mentioned in connection with the descendants of Judah.
The Horites, including Shobal's clan to which Manahat belonged, are listed as tribal chiefs who lived in the land of Seir before being displaced by Esau's descendants.
Shobal's clan, of which Manahat was a part, is counted among the Horite chiefs who held influence in the Seir region during the time of the patriarchs.
The Seir region, where Manahat's family lived, was later taken over by Esau's descendants (the Edomites), placing Manahat in an important geopolitical context within the biblical narrative.
12The Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau dispossessed them, wiped them out, and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the LORD gave them as their possession.)
22just as he had done for the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites before them, so that they dispossessed them and have lived in their place to this day.
