Melchizedek
King of Salem
Melchizedek was king in Salem and priest of the Most High God. He met Abraham after his victory over the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth. He is an enigmatic figure with no mentioned genealogy, used in Hebrews as a type of Christ as eternal priest.

Melchizedek came out with bread and wine and blessed Abraham after his victory.
18And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,
וּמַלְכִּי־צֶ֙דֶק֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ שָׁלֵ֔ם הוֹצִ֖יא לֶ֣חֶם וָיָ֑יִן וְה֥וּא כֹהֵ֖ן לְאֵ֥ל עֶלְיֽוֹן׃
19and he blessed him, saying: "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth;
וֽ͏ַיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר בָּר֤וּךְ אַבְרָם֙ לְאֵ֣ל עֶלְי֔וֹן קֹנֵ֖ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ׃
20and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
וּבָרוּךְ֙ אֵ֣ל עֶלְי֔וֹן אֲשֶׁר־מִגֵּ֥ן צָרֶ֖יךָ בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ וַיִּתֶּן־ל֥וֹ מַעֲשֵׂ֖ר מִכֹּֽל׃
Priest Forever
David prophesied that the Messiah would be a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
4The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."
נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהוָ֨ה ׀ וְלֹ֥א יִנָּחֵ֗ם אַתָּֽה־כֹהֵ֥ן לְעוֹלָ֑ם עַל־דִּ֝בְרָתִ֗י מַלְכִּי־צֶֽדֶק׃
Type of Christ
Hebrews explains how Melchizedek is a type of Christ's eternal priesthood.
6And elsewhere he says: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
καθὼς καὶ ἐν ἑτέρῳ λέγει· Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ,
10having been designated by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
προσαγορευθεὶς ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀρχιερεὺς κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ.
1This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
Οὗτος γὰρ ὁ Μελχισέδεκ, βασιλεὺς Σαλήμ, ἱερεὺς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου, ⸀ὁ συναντήσας Ἀβραὰμ ὑποστρέφοντι ἀπὸ τῆς κοπῆς τῶν βασιλέων καὶ εὐλογήσας αὐτόν,
2and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. His name means "king of righteousness," and he was also king of Salem, that is, "king of peace."
ᾧ καὶ δεκάτην ἀπὸ πάντων ἐμέρισεν Ἀβραάμ, πρῶτον μὲν ἑρμηνευόμενος βασιλεὺς δικαιοσύνης ἔπειτα δὲ καὶ βασιλεὺς Σαλήμ, ὅ ἐστιν βασιλεὺς εἰρήνης,
3Without father or mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.
ἀπάτωρ, ἀμήτωρ, ἀγενεαλόγητος, μήτε ἀρχὴν ἡμερῶν μήτε ζωῆς τέλος ἔχων, ἀφωμοιωμένος δὲ τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ θεοῦ, μένει ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸ διηνεκές.
15And this becomes even clearer if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,
Καὶ περισσότερον ἔτι κατάδηλόν ἐστιν, εἰ κατὰ τὴν ὁμοιότητα Μελχισέδεκ ἀνίσταται ἱερεὺς ἕτερος,
16one who has become a priest not on the basis of a law about physical descent, but through the power of an indestructible life.
ὃς οὐ κατὰ νόμον ἐντολῆς ⸀σαρκίνης γέγονεν ἀλλὰ κατὰ δύναμιν ζωῆς ἀκαταλύτου,
17For it is testified of him: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
⸀μαρτυρεῖται γὰρ ὅτι Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ.
