Then King David said to the whole assembly: "My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for this palace is not for man but for the LORD God.
With all my strength I have made provision for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood; also onyx stones and stones for settings, stones of antimony and of many colors, every kind of precious stone, and marble in abundance.
Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give for the house of my God my own treasure of gold and silver, over and above all that I have provided for the holy house:
gold for the gold work and silver for the silver, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now who will offer himself willingly, consecrating himself today to the LORD?"
Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly.
For the service of the house of God they gave five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.
Then David blessed the LORD in the sight of the whole assembly, saying: "Blessed are you, LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.
Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.
Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are strength and might, and it is in your power to make great and to give strength to all.
But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so willingly as this? For everything comes from you, and from your hand we have given to you.
I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in what is right. With an upright heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen with joy how your people who are here have given willingly to you.
And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, to carry out everything, and to build the palace for which I have made provision."
Then David said to the whole assembly, "Praise the LORD your God!" And the whole assembly praised the LORD, the God of their fathers, and they bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before the LORD and before the king.
