The Parable of the Seed Growing by Itself
Jesus tells about a man who sows seed and then sleeps and rises while the earth bears fruit by itself – first stalk, then head, then full grain in the head – until harvest comes and the sickle is sent out. This is a parable about the kingdom of God growing in a way that humans do not understand.
Markusevangeliet 4,26-29
26He also said, "The kingdom of God is like this: a man scatters seed on the ground.
Καὶ ἔλεγεν· Οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ⸀ὡς ἄνθρωπος βάλῃ τὸν σπόρον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
27Night and day he sleeps and rises, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.
καὶ καθεύδῃ καὶ ἐγείρηται νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ σπόρος ⸀βλαστᾷ καὶ μηκύνηται ὡς οὐκ οἶδεν αὐτός.
28All by itself the earth bears fruit: first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head.
⸀αὐτομάτη ἡ γῆ καρποφορεῖ, πρῶτον χόρτον, ⸂εἶτα στάχυν, εἶτα⸃ ⸂πλήρης σῖτον⸃ ἐν τῷ στάχυϊ.
29And when the grain is ripe, he takes the sickle at once, because the harvest has come."
ὅταν δὲ ⸀παραδοῖ ὁ καρπός, ⸀εὐθὺς ἀποστέλλει τὸ δρέπανον, ὅτι παρέστηκεν ὁ θερισμός.
