Ahiher, son of Ammishaddai, was the tribal leader (nasi) of Dan during the Israelites' wilderness journey after leaving Egypt. God himself appointed him to assist Moses in the census and the overall organization of Israel's camp. As commander of the northern division of the camp, which also included Asher and Naphtali under his authority, he was responsible for the unit that formed the rear guard during the people's march through the wilderness—a position of significant military-strategic importance. On the eleventh day of the dedication ceremonies, Ahiher brought his offering before the altar of the tabernacle, equal to the offerings of the other tribal leaders, as an expression of the tribe of Dan's devotion to the Lord and its equal standing among Israel's twelve tribes.
38The descendants of Dan: all the men twenty years old and upward who were fit for military service were listed by name, according to their genealogy, by clan and family.
Ahiezer led Dan's division, which was positioned on the north side of the tabernacle along with the tribes of Asher and Naphtali. This division formed the last group to break camp during the march.
On the eleventh day, Ahiezer brought his offering at the dedication of the tabernacle's altar, including a silver plate, a silver bowl, a gold bowl with incense, as well as burnt offerings and sin offerings.
67His offering was one silver plate weighing a hundred and thirty shekels and one silver basin of seventy shekels, by the sanctuary shekel, both of them filled with fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering;
71and for the fellowship offering, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old. This was the offering of Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
25Finally the standard of the camp of Dan set out as rear guard for all the camps, company by company, and Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was over its company.
