Andrew was one of Jesus' first disciples and the brother of Simon Peter. He was from Bethsaida by the Sea of Galilee and worked as a fisherman. Originally, he was a disciple of John the Baptist, but followed Jesus after the Baptist's testimony about him as "the Lamb of God". In Eastern church tradition, he is called "the First-called" (Protokletos). Andrew is known for his role in bringing people to Jesus – first his brother Peter, later the boy with bread and fish at the feeding of the five thousand, and Greeks who wanted to meet Jesus. He is counted among the twelve apostles and was a witness to central events in Jesus' ministry.
Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist and followed Jesus when the Baptist pointed him out as "the Lamb of God". He spent the day with Jesus and became the first to be called to follow him.
39"Come and see," he said. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour—four in the afternoon.
The first thing Andrew did was find his brother Simon and say: "We have found the Messiah!" and bring him to Jesus, who gave Simon the name Cephas (Peter).
Jesus called Andrew and Peter while they were casting nets into the sea, saying: "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." They immediately left their nets and followed him.
18As he was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
At the feeding of the five thousand, it was Andrew who found the boy with five barley loaves and two fish and brought him to Jesus, even though he wondered what that could be enough for.

The Greeks Who Sought Jesus
When some Greeks wanted to meet Jesus, they approached Philip, who went to Andrew. Together they brought the Greeks to Jesus, illustrating Andrew's role as a bridge-builder.
