Rei was one of King David's loyal men who did not join Adonija in his attempt to seize the throne. He is mentioned in connection with the struggle for succession toward the end of David's reign, where he remained faithful to both David and Solomon.

Faithfulness to David

Rai is mentioned together with other faithful men such as Benaiah and David's warriors, all of whom rejected Adonijah's claim to the throne.

9Adonijah sacrificed sheep, cattle, and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah who were royal officials,

Solomon's Accession Secured

Through the loyalty of men like Rai, Benaiah, Zadok, and the prophet Nathan, Solomon's accession was made possible in accordance with David's will.

Adonijah's Feast at En-Rogel

Adonijah invited his supporters to a feast at En-Rogel, but Rai was among those deliberately not invited because he was known for his loyalty to David.
