The number 62 appears in the Bible primarily in Daniel 9:25–26, where the prophecy describes a time period of seven weeks plus sixty-two weeks from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One comes. After the 62 weeks, the Anointed One shall be "cut off and have nothing," and the city and sanctuary shall be destroyed. The prophecy is one of the most debated chronological calculations in biblical literature, and both Jewish and Christian interpreters have attempted to link it to specific historical events. Beyond this prophecy, the number 62 has limited independent symbolic significance in the biblical tradition. In rabbinic tradition, the 62 weeks have been linked to the period from the rebuilding of the temple under Persian rule until the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. The Talmud (Sanhedrin 97b) discusses the ages of the world in connection with Daniel's weeks. In Christian theology, the 62 weeks (plus the 7 weeks) are interpreted messianically, with the time calculation pointing to Jesus' public ministry and crucifixion. Many Christian commentators count the weeks as "year-weeks" (1 week = 7 years), resulting in a period of 483 years from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem.
