Ammisshaddai

Father of Ahiezer, leader of the tribe of Dan

Auch bekannt als: Ammishaddai

Der ExodusFather of a tribal leaderc. 1500–1400 BC

Ammishaddai is a biblical figure primarily known as the father of Ahiezer, the appointed leader of the tribe of Dan during Israel's time in the wilderness. His name is theologically charged and likely means "my people are the Almighty" – a confession that links his lineage to God under his ancient title Shaddai. Although Ammishaddai does not appear independently in the narrative, he serves an important function as a patronym: through his name, his son Ahiezer's leadership is identified and legitimized in the census, the camp arrangement, the offerings at the dedication of the tabernacle, and the command of Dan's military force. In this way, Ammishaddai illustrates how kinship and family belonging were fundamental to Israel's social and religious organization during the wilderness period.
