Ahiezer

Prince of the tribe of Dan

Der ExodusTribal princeMilitary commanderLeaderUnknown; Exodus period (circa 1400s or 1200s BC, depending on chronological model)

Ahiezer, son of Ammishaddai, served as tribal prince and military commander for the tribe of Dan during the wilderness journey after leaving Egypt. He was chosen by God to stand beside Moses as leader of his tribe when the Israelites were mustered in the Sinai desert. With its 62,700 fighting men, Dan formed one of the largest tribes. In the camp arrangement around the tabernacle, Ahiezer's division was positioned on the north side, together with the tribes of Asher and Naphtali. During the march, Dan held the strategically vital position as the rear guard for all Israel's camp. At the dedication of the altar, Ahiezer presented his offering on the tenth day, consisting of a silver plate, a silver basin, a gold bowl with incense, along with sacrificial animals for burnt offerings, sin offerings, and peace offerings—the same gift that each of the other tribal princes brought.
