Mentioned in the genealogy after the Flood

Misrajim is mentioned as one of Ham's four sons in the genealogy after Noah in Genesis.

6The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

The descendants of Misrajim

The sons of Misrajim and the nations that descended from him are listed, including the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, Pathrusites, Casluhites, and Caphtorimtes.

13Egypt fathered the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim,

14the Pathrusim, the Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorim.

Repeated in Chronicles

The genealogy from Genesis is repeated in 1 Chronicles, where Misrajim is again mentioned as a son of Ham and the ancestor of several nations.

8The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

Ham's curse and its context

The background for Ham's lineage, including Misrajim, is linked to the event where Noah cursed Canaan after the Flood.

18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan.
19These three were Noah's sons, and from them the whole earth was populated.
20Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.
21He drank some of the wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered inside his tent.
22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside.
25he said, "Cursed be Canaan! He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers."

The dispersion of the nations

Misrajim and his descendants were part of the dispersion of the nations over the earth after the Flood, as described in the table of nations.

32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family lines, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
