Moses was 80 years old when he stood before Pharaoh and led the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 7:7), making the number a symbol of spiritual maturity and readiness for God's call. In Psalm 90:10, traditionally attributed to Moses, 80 years is mentioned as the lifespan of those who have extra strength: "Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures." The number can thus be understood as an expression of fully matured power and the life experience required to perform great deeds in God's service. The Hebrew letter pe (פ) has a numerical value of 80. Pe means "mouth" and is linked to speech and communication—an appropriate association given that Moses, at his calling, complained about being "slow of speech and tongue" (Exodus 4:10), yet by the age of 80 he spoke with divine authority to Pharaoh. Moses' life is traditionally divided into three periods of 40 years each: 40 years in Egypt, 40 years in Midian, and 40 years as Israel's leader. The time at 80 years thus marks the transition from preparation to the fulfillment of his calling (Acts 7:23–36).*
