Elisha Heals the Water at Jericho
The men of Jericho told Elisha that the city was well situated, but that the water was bad and the land barren. Elisha asked for a new bowl with salt, went out to the spring, and threw the salt into the water while declaring that the Lord had made the water fresh. The water was healed and remained fresh.
2 Kings 2,19-22
19The men of the city said to Elisha, "Look, our lord can see that this city is well situated, but the water is bad and the land is barren."
וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י הָעִיר֙ אֶל־אֱלִישָׁ֔ע הִנֵּה־נָ֞א מוֹשַׁ֤ב הָעִיר֙ ט֔וֹב כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י רֹאֶ֑ה וְהַמַּ֥יִם רָעִ֖ים וְהָאָ֥רֶץ מְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃
20"Bring me a new bowl," he said, "and put salt in it." So they brought it to him.
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר קְחוּ־לִי֙ צְלֹחִ֣ית חֲדָשָׁ֔ה וְשִׂ֥ימוּ שָׁ֖ם מֶ֑לַח וַיִּקְח֖וּ אֵלָֽיו׃
21Then he went out to the spring, threw the salt into it, and said, "This is what the LORD says: I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unfruitful."
וַיֵּצֵא֙ אֶל־מוֹצָ֣א הַמַּ֔יִם וַיַּשְׁלֶךְ־שָׁ֖ם מֶ֑לַח וַיֹּ֜אמֶר כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה רִפִּ֙אתִי֙ לַמַּ֣יִם הָאֵ֔לֶּה לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֥ה מִשָּׁ֛ם ע֖וֹד מָ֥וֶת וּמְשַׁכָּֽלֶת׃
22And the water has been wholesome to this day, just as Elisha had said.
וַיֵּרָפ֣וּ הַמַּ֔יִם עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּדְבַ֥ר אֱלִישָׁ֖ע אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃ פ
