The prophets
The Prophecy of Fishers and Hunters
The Lord announces that he will send many fishers and hunters to track down the people from the mountains, hills, and clefts, to repay their sin and idolatry double because they have desecrated the land. The passage ends with a prayer in which Jeremiah acknowledges the Lord as his strength, and a prophecy that the nations from the ends of the earth will realize that the gods of their fathers are lies, and that they will know the Lord's hand and power and understand that his name is the Lord.
Jeremiah 16,16-21
16Look, I am sending for many fishermen, declares the LORD, and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and out of the clefts of the rocks.
17For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from me, and their guilt is not concealed from my sight.
18First I will repay them double for their guilt and their sin, because they have defiled my land with the carcasses of their vile idols and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.
19O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say: "Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all."
20Can a man make gods for himself? Such are no gods at all!
21Therefore I will make them know—this time I will make them know my hand and my might—and they will know that my name is the LORD.
