Nathanael was one of Jesus' twelve disciples, likely the same person as Bartholomew in the Synoptic Gospels. He is known for his honest skepticism when he first heard about Jesus, and for Jesus' commendation of him as 'a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.' He was called by Philip and came from Cana in Galilee.

Philip Tells Nathanael About Jesus
Philip found Nathanael and told him that they had found the one Moses and the prophets wrote about: Jesus from Nazareth. Nathanael replied skeptically, 'Can anything good come out of Nazareth?'

When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said: 'Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.' This showed Jesus' supernatural knowledge of people's character.
When Jesus revealed that he had seen Nathanael under the fig tree before Philip called him, Nathanael confessed: 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel!'
Jesus answered Nathanael that he would see greater things than this, and promised that they would see heaven open and God's angels ascending and descending over the Son of Man.
Nathanael from Cana in Galilee was among the disciples who met the risen Jesus at the Sea of Galilee, when he revealed himself to them while they were fishing.
