Paul's Traveling Party from Berea
Sopater was a Christian from Berea who joined Paul's traveling party on his third missionary journey. He was the son of Pyrrhus and likely represented the church in Berea when they accompanied Paul with the collection for the poor in Jerusalem.

Sopater and the other companions went ahead and waited for Paul in Troas, while Paul himself traveled via Philippi.

26For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
εὐδόκησαν γὰρ Μακεδονία καὶ Ἀχαΐα κοινωνίαν τινὰ ποιήσασθαι εἰς τοὺς πτωχοὺς τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.
