Standardversion In every single province where the king's command and decree arrived, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping, and wailing, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
In every province the decree and edict of the king reached, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping, and lament, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. The Hebrew doubles מְדִינָה וּמְדִינָה ('every single province') and uses דְּבַר־הַמֶּלֶךְ וְדָתוֹ ('the king's word and his law'); the current wording flattens both. Also the relative clause 'the decree and edict of the king reached' is grammatically awkward without 'where.'
